Lego Movie 2: The Second Part – Is it Worth Your Time?

😀😀😀⚪️⚪️⚪️

I just returned home from the local cinema with two of my kids after watching Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (directed by Mike Mitchell) which opened today in theaters.  As I sit here in front of my computer, I am legitimately at a loss of words to describe the mishmash of  insanity I just witnessed on the big screen.

Let me take a moment here to state that I have not seen The Lego Movie (the prequel to Lego Movie 2: The Second Part).  Maybe I should have done my homework so I could more intellectually discuss the quality of the sequel while comparing it to it’s predecessor.  But, let’s be honest; I am not the first parent to see a sequel before the original because our kiddos were too young to see the first movie when it came out or because schedules exploded in an army of to-dos and the next thing we knew it had been 6 months since the movie left theaters.  So, this review is for the parents who, like me, missed out on The Lego Movie and are walking into the theater blind.

This movie was like Lego’s on acid.  Toss every lego kit you can find – from Lego City to Back to the Future to Lego Wonder Woman to the random bricks which impale your feet – into a massive pile. Then, attempt to come up with a plot line.  I can’t decide if it was ridiculous or absolutely brilliant.  I can tell you that my kids thoroughly enjoyed it, belly laughing throughout.

Emmet Brickowski (Chris Pratt) is the beacon of positivity amongst the hardened, battle ready friends of Apocalypseburg.  Lucy (Elizabeth Banks) tries to instill a sense of reality in Emmet just before she is abducted with her friends including Lego Batman (Will Arnett) and Unikitty (Alison Brie) and taken to the 11th Planet of the Sister System.  Emmet must save them by passing through the Portal to Dimensions Unknown: The Stairgate.  Will he save them?  Will there be a plot twist?  I suppose you will have to see the movie to find out.

If your kids love Legos and have an amazing imagination, I recommend this movie.  While I am not in any hurry to see it again, Lego Movie 2: The Second Part was fantastic fun for the kids and the ending turned an otherwise snooze into an enjoyable experience for me.

Did you see The Lego Movie 2?  What did you think?
