Dolittle Is No Little Movie

Today I saw Dolittle, Robert Downey Jr.โ€™s latest cinematic feature about the heartbroken Dr. Dolittle (Robert Downey Jr.), a recluse with the ability to talk to animals.  He has shut out all human interaction in favor of his animal friendsโ€™ company.  Tommy Stubbins (Harry Collett) turns to Dr. Dolittle for help saving a squirrel (Craig Robinson) at the same time Lady Rose (Carmel Laniado) requests the doctorโ€™s presence at Buckingham Palace.  With the help of his friends including Chee-Chee (Rami Malek), Poly (Emma Thompson), and Yoshi (John Cena), Dolittle embarks on a quest for the antidote needed to save Queen Victoria (Jessie Buckley).

Hugh Lofting’s Doctor Dolittle books, originally written in the 1920’s are not new to the silver screen. Rex Harrison portrayed Doctor Dolittle in 1967 and Eddie Murphy filled Dr. Dolittle’s shoes in 1998. If you saw those, do not pass up 2020’s Dolittle. The acting is fantastic.ย  How could it not be?ย  The cast includes everyone from Antonio Banderas (King Rassouli) to Michael Sheen (Dr. Blair Mudfly).ย  The animation is wonderful, the costumes are great and the script is really fun!ย  Filled with laugh out loud moments, Dolittle is purely enjoyable. ย

Dolittleโ€™s animals, pirates, and adventure are 100% aimed at kid audiences yet succeeds at entertaining parents, too.  My son and his friend were all smiles after the movie, as was I.  Without a doubt, we will be watching this movie again.
